New Demographic Strategy: Fu Kun-chi Welcomes Adoption of Opposition Policies

KMT caucus leader Fu Kun-chi stated that he welcomes President Lai's pragmatic approach two years into his term, noting that adopting opposition policies is a positive step. President Lai held a press conference this morning with his administration team to announce 18 measures under the 'New Strategy for Taiwan's Population—Family Support,' including growth subsidies, expanded artificial reproduction subsidies, tax cuts for families, and extended leave. Fu, speaking after the KMT central standing committee meeting, criticized the ruling party's past political tactics but acknowledged the policy shift. He argued that young people are afraid to have children due to wealth inequality and housing issues, suggesting that the government should fulfill its social housing promises. KMT deputy secretary-general Hsu Yu-chen noted that the government's measures are highly similar to those previously proposed by the KMT, but emphasized that the party will support any policy beneficial to the public.
