Canadian cross-party delegation to visit Taiwan in October, defying Chinese pressure

The Canadian House of Commons International Trade Committee held a hearing on 'Canada-Taiwan Trade Cooperation' today. Committee Chair Judy Sgro announced that she will lead a cross-party delegation to Taiwan in October, stating, 'If anyone thinks no more members of Parliament will visit Taiwan, they are wrong.' This comes despite warnings from Chinese Ambassador Wang Di that such visits or naval transits through the Taiwan Strait could impact the strategic partnership between Beijing and Ottawa. Taiwan's representative to Canada, Tseng Ho-jen, highlighted the complementary nature of the two economies, particularly in semiconductors, AI, and clean energy, and urged progress on the Taiwan-Canada Trade Cooperation Framework Agreement (TCFA).
