In response to the entry of NVIDIA's Taiwan headquarters into the Beitou-Shilin Technology Park (Beishike) and the resulting surge in local power demand, Taipower and the Taipei City Government discussed power facility planning today and finalized the decision to build a "transformer underground substation" for the park. Taipower explained in the evening that the construction period will be approximately 6 to 7 years, balancing power stability, engineering safety, and construction timelines. The company will also simultaneously promote the construction of a temporary substation to meet the new power demands of the park in advance. AI chip giant NVIDIA held a Taiwan employee meeting today at the site of its new headquarters in Beishike (T17, 18). CEO Jensen Huang stated that the new headquarters is expected to start construction by the end of 2026. Huang also urged Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an that NVIDIA needs more energy in Taiwan, and that energy growth is crucial to Taiwan's GDP. Taipower expressed that it welcomes the consensus reached with the city government, which returns to engineering professionalism, and will continue to promote short, medium, and long-term grid construction to ensure stable power supply for the park.
