Grassland Near Keelung Station South Exit Becomes 'Rat Nest', Taiwan Railways Fined NT$9,600

A netizen filmed a video showing several large rats roaming in the grass near the south exit of Keelung Station, exclaiming that it looked like a "rat nest." Following an inspection, the Keelung Environmental Protection Bureau issued two citations and fined Taiwan Railways a total of NT$9,600, ordering them to make improvements within a specified period. Failure to improve by the deadline will result in continued fines. Ma Chung-hao, Director of the Keelung Environmental Protection Bureau, stated today that they had previously advised Taiwan Railways to make improvements. After receiving reports from citizens, they inspected the site and found many rat holes. Additionally, another area near the north station was found to have overgrown weeds and uncleaned waste. Taiwan Railways stated that they have been conducting pest control operations at all stations from April to May and plan to increase the frequency of environmental cleaning and pesticide application to once a week by the end of September. Regarding issues such as homeless people and bird feeding around the station, they will coordinate with the competent authorities to strengthen patrols to ensure passenger rights.
