Miaoli Police Officers Detained for Fraudulently Claiming Bounties on Migrant Workers

A police officer surnamed Chen in Miaoli County, while serving as the chief of the Tongluo Police Station, allegedly deceived migrant workers who intended to surrender voluntarily, reporting them as 'arrested' to claim bounty payments. The police department's internal audit discovered the irregularities and reported them to the prosecutor's office. Five officers were involved, and two have been detained by the court. The migrant workers, believing that surrendering would lead to a faster return home and lower fines, were shocked to find they were labeled as 'arrested' and faced heavy fines, leading them to file a complaint. The Miaoli County Police Department stated that all involved personnel will be severely punished and that they maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward police misconduct.
