Southern China has recently faced early high-temperature weather. In Guangdong, the weather is hot and humid day and night, with the 'feels-like' temperature in the provincial capital, Guangzhou, reaching approximately 47°C. Some netizens have jokingly remarked that they want to 'go to Africa to cool off.' According to local media, Southern China is experiencing its largest heatwave of the year, with many areas entering 'mid-summer mode' early. Residents complain that the summer has just begun but it is already scorching. In regions like Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Hunan, and Jiangxi, daytime highs are hovering around 35°C, but high humidity has pushed 'feels-like' temperatures much higher. In cities like Guangzhou, Haikou, Ganzhou, and Hengyang, the 'feels-like' temperature easily exceeded 40°C, with Guangzhou reaching 47°C, Hengyang 45°C, and Nanning around 43°C. Nighttime temperatures also hover around 30°C, providing no relief. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) predicts the return of El Niño, which is supplying more heat and moisture, causing the early and intense heatwave.
