Paris, May 27 (CNA). On the 89th day of the US-Israel campaign against Iran, and after President Trump dismissed reports of an imminent compromise with Tehran, US forces struck Iranian drone operations near the Strait of Hormuz, and the IRGC subsequently announced an attack on a US base. US officials stated that the military targeted locations threatening commercial shipping and intercepted Iranian drones. Iranian media reported three explosions east of Bandar Abbas. The Trump administration also imposed additional sanctions on the newly formed Persian Gulf Strait Authority, which seeks to control shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump dismissed concerns about domestic political impacts, stating he does not care about the midterms. He also refuted reports that Iran and Oman would jointly manage the Strait. Meanwhile, a CSIS report indicated that the US is depleting critical weapon systems like Tomahawks, Patriots, and THAAD interceptors, with a three-year replenishment timeline. Israel launched airstrikes on Hezbollah infrastructure in Tyre, Lebanon. The IRGC claimed to have targeted a US base in retaliation for strikes on an airport in southern Iran. Oil prices rose, and Asian markets fell.
