Taichung Increases General Industrial Waste Treatment Fees by NT$1,040 per Ton

Central News Agency (Taichung) The Taichung Environmental Protection Bureau announced today an amendment to the fee standards for the collection and treatment of general and industrial waste. While household waste treatment fees remain unchanged at NT$2,000 per ton, general industrial waste treatment fees have been raised from NT$2,250 to NT$3,290 per ton. Fees for transferring waste to other counties have increased from NT$2,800 to NT$4,340 per ton, and sewage treatment fees have risen from NT$216 to NT$890 per ton. Collection fees for solid waste have increased from NT$550 to NT$1,050 per ton, and liquid waste from NT$200 to NT$890 per ton. The Bureau stated that the increase is due to rising operational costs, including labor, fuel, and equipment maintenance. Furthermore, to prevent waste from other counties from entering Taichung and to uphold the "polluter pays" principle, the fees have been adjusted. The Bureau also introduced specific rates for high-calorific waste such as plastics, rubber, fibers, and paper, which are harder to process and increase the burden on incineration plants.
