Puzi Mayor's Cup Baseball Tournament: Taoyuan Wins High School Division

The 3rd Puzi Mayor's Cup National Baseball Invitational concluded today. In the high school division, Taoyuan City defeated New Taipei City 3-2 to claim the championship, while Tongren Elementary School from Zhongpu Township, Chiayi County, won the youth division, which concluded on the 23rd. Hosted by the Puzi City Office in Chiayi County, the tournament attracted 24 youth teams and 16 high school teams from across the country. Puzi Mayor Wu Pin-jui stated that the Puzi area has a deep-rooted baseball culture, with schools like Puzi Elementary, Datong Elementary, Dongshi Junior High, and Dongshi High School cultivating many excellent players over the years. She thanked the Puzi City Council for their support in expanding the tournament. In today's high school championship game, Taoyuan City faced New Taipei City. Trailing 1-2, they turned the game around in the 4th inning with key hits from Yan Bo-xun and Xing Shi-xian, eventually winning 3-2. Taoyuan's starting pitcher Huang You-ru allowed 2 runs in 3.2 innings, while reliever Li Cheng-jun pitched 3.1 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. After the game, Taoyuan City swept several individual awards: Luo Jian-ming won the Coach Award, Yan Bo-xun was named MVP, Liu Ren-you won the Pitcher Award, and Qiu Sheng-an won the RBI Award. The top three batting awards went to Yang Yao-cheng (Gaoyuan Vocational High School), Xing Shi-xian (Taoyuan City), and Huang Shi-yao (New Taipei City), respectively. The Home Run Award went to Luo Zhi-qin from Chongyi High School.
