Central News Agency, Taoyuan, May 28. A workplace accident occurred today at an MRT construction site in Bade District, Taoyuan City. A 50-year-old Thai male worker was struck in the head by an excavator arm and was pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital. The Taoyuan Department of Rapid Transit Systems stated that it will cooperate with labor inspection agencies to clarify the cause of the accident. According to the Taoyuan Fire Department, they received a report at 9:06 AM about an accident at a construction site near the intersection of Section 1, Jieshou Road and Yiyong Street in Bade District. The worker was working in a ventilation shaft about 18 meters underground when his head was accidentally struck by the excavator arm. When firefighters arrived, the worker had a depressed skull fracture and showed no signs of life. Despite CPR and being hoisted to the surface, he was declared dead at St. Paul's Hospital. The Taoyuan Department of Rapid Transit Systems stated that the site is part of the MRT construction project in Bade District and is not in the priority section for early opening.
