UK Think Tank: US-China Conflict Over Taiwan Could Lead to Nuclear Escalation

The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) stated on the 28th that a US-China conflict over Taiwan carries the risk of nuclear escalation. Ahead of the Shangri-La Dialogue, Asia's largest defense summit held in Singapore, the London-based IISS released a strategic assessment report warning that the world is on the brink of a new nuclear arms race. Given Taiwan's strategic importance, the report points out that in the event of a conflict, both sides would likely launch large-scale military operations targeting each other's command, control, communication, and intelligence nodes, potentially escalating tensions to a nuclear level. The report also highlights the concerning lack of safety guardrails or rules of engagement between the two militaries to prevent conflict.
