Filipino migrant worker receives suspended sentence for abandoning stillborn fetus in Taichung

According to the Central News Agency, a Filipino woman surnamed Ai was indicted by prosecutors for abandoning a corpse after she gave birth to a stillborn fetus in her company dormitory in Taichung last October and discarded the body in a nearby drainage ditch. The Taichung District Court sentenced her to six months in prison, suspended for two years, with the right to appeal. The indictment states that Ai entered Taiwan on May 8, 114, and worked for a company in Tanzi District, Taichung. On October 29, 114, she gave birth in the dormitory bathroom. Due to a lack of prenatal care and medical assistance, the fetus was premature and died shortly after birth. Fearing discovery, Ai threw the body into a ditch. The court considered her confession and good attitude in granting the suspended sentence.
