The Fisheries Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture announced today that between late 2023 and March this year, 20 samples of commercially available oysters were identified as illegally mislabeled imported products sold for profit. Three cases have been concluded, with penalties ranging from NT$100,000 to NT$200,000 in fines and four-month prison sentences. The agency noted that domestic oysters are a vital economic resource, and the government has established a cross-departmental task force to conduct inspections using advanced identification methods. Consumers are encouraged to purchase products with traceability QR codes to ensure food safety.
