Central News Agency, Taipei, May 28. As the US Section 232 tariff relief for non-semiconductor products is about to take effect, the status of semiconductor tariffs remains pending. Vice Premier Cheng Li-chun stated that there is currently no timetable for US semiconductor tariffs. The government is actively negotiating to secure duty-free quotas and exemption lists for Taiwanese companies investing in the US before any such tariffs are introduced. The Taiwan-US investment MOU signed in January guarantees the most favorable treatment for Taiwan regarding semiconductor tariffs, including duty-free quotas and exemptions for raw materials and equipment. Cheng expressed hope that the US would delay any tariff implementation to reduce uncertainty for Taiwanese firms. Regarding the $250 billion investment plan in the US, the government plans to provide credit guarantees to support financial institutions in offering loans, with MOUs expected to be signed with banks by mid-June.
