Chien Tzu-chieh wins silver in 3000m at U20 Asian Athletics Championships

At the U20 Asian Athletics Championships held in Hong Kong, Taiwanese long-distance rising star Chien Tzu-chieh won the silver medal in the men's 3000m event today with a time of 8:00.42. This not only marks a personal best but also secures the first medal for the Taiwan team in the tournament. Born to prominent long-distance runners—his father, Chien Chao-wang, is an athletics coach, and his mother, Hsu Yu-fang, is a former national record holder in the women's 5000m—Chien has excelled from a young age. Under his parents' guidance, he studied and trained in Japan. At just 19, he already holds the national records for the men's 1500m and 5000m. In today's race, Chien aimed for gold and shaved five seconds off his personal best. He finished behind Qatar's Mubarik Abdi Said (7:56.08), while Japan's Yota Masuko took bronze. His father noted that Said and Masuko were the primary rivals. Chien will compete in the 1500m on the 30th, hoping to add to Taiwan's medal tally.
