To alleviate flooding in the downstream areas of Kanding, the Pingtung County Government promoted the Kanding branch drainage improvement project and built a flood detention pond. The project, which held its completion ceremony today, not only enhances flood prevention but also creates a new landscape and recreational space. Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi stated that recent water management projects aim to balance natural ecology with quality of life. The Kanding detention pond project cost NT$460 million and was completed with the support of the Water Resources Agency. Chou noted that the project is a model case combining flood control, landscaping, and recreation. The pond has a capacity of 169,000 tons, serving to mitigate flood peaks during heavy rain and providing green space for residents during normal times.
