New York State Legislature Passes Resolution Celebrating 'Taiwan Heritage Day'

The New York State Senate and Assembly unanimously passed a resolution on the 27th designating May 27, 2026, as 'Taiwan Heritage Day.' The resolution emphasizes the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Assurances as the cornerstones of US-Taiwan relations, highlighting the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait for the Indo-Pacific region. It also recognizes the cooperation between the two sides in trade, education, and disaster prevention, while honoring the contributions of the Taiwanese community to New York State. Director-General Li Chih-chiang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York noted that Taiwan has become the fourth-largest trading partner of the US and expressed hope for a partnership in semiconductor talent development. Several state legislators attended the ceremony, which featured Taiwanese folk music performances.
