Teacher Fall Death Case; Chen Chi-mai: Reviewing School Affairs Meetings and Seeking Legal Amendments

Central News Agency (Kaohsiung, 29th) Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai stated in a media interview today regarding the case of a teacher at an elementary school who died after falling from a building, that he visited the family yesterday and they were deeply saddened. The city government will review the problems that have arisen since the introduction of the new 'School Affairs Meeting' system and will advocate for legal amendments at the central government level where necessary.

Before attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the 'Yingwei Technology Renwu Industrial Park Factory Construction Project' in Renwu District, Kaohsiung, this morning, Chen responded to media questions, saying, 'It is very painful that such a good teacher has passed away.' The family is very sad, and he hopes the public will give them some space. The Kaohsiung City Government will provide full assistance.

He said that in addition to strengthening the existing teacher support system, more resources will be invested to help share the pressure of teachers' frontline teaching and administrative work. If necessary, the teaching environment will be improved to provide teachers with more support.

Regarding the School Affairs Meeting, Chen stated that since the new system was introduced this year, teachers have generally reported many situations and difficulties. He had previously requested the Kaohsiung City Education Bureau to propose different reform plans for these bottlenecks. For parts involving legal amendments, he will explain them to the Ministry of Education and the Legislative Yuan, hoping to accelerate the reform of the School Affairs Meeting system.

He said that this incident has left the school very depressed. After the incident, the Education Bureau and the Kaohsiung City Health Bureau launched care and counseling mechanisms to ensure that teachers and students are supported during this most difficult time.

In addition, the Ministry of Education has formed a special task force to go south to assist the school with follow-up counseling and will continue to strengthen the teacher support mechanism.
