Taoyuan Passes 'Affordable Housing Ordinance' in Third Reading; Approval Sought in June

Taoyuan City is advancing its 'Affordable Housing' policy, with the City Council passing the 'Taoyuan City Affordable Housing Development and Management Ordinance' in its third reading today. The ordinance is expected to be submitted to the Executive Yuan for approval in June. The Urban Development Bureau stated that this policy creates a transitional housing option between social housing and market-rate properties, offering more choices for families. The policy emphasizes the 'de-commodification' of housing and utilizes Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) for site selection. Eligibility criteria include being aged 25 to 45, having minor children, residing in Taoyuan for at least one year, and not owning property. Prices are based on household affordability rather than market rates, and resale restrictions ensure the properties are used for owner-occupancy. The city has also launched an 'Affordable Housing Website' to facilitate online property viewing and transactions.
