The Water Resources Agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs has completed the Guangfu Levee and Wanrong Diversion Levee as part of dredging and reconstruction efforts on Mataian Creek, enhancing flood resilience ahead of the flood season. Premier Cho Jung-tai visited Hualien today to inspect the progress, stating that high-standard levees will be completed by the end of next year, alongside the use of high-speed computing by the Central Weather Administration to improve early disaster prediction. Water Resources Agency Director Lin Yuan-peng noted that 240 million cubic meters of sediment remain upstream, and stabilization will take over a decade. Additionally, Minister without Portfolio Chen Chin-te announced that the Ministry of Agriculture will acquire approximately 160 hectares of severely damaged farmland to be developed into parks, retention basins, and community spaces, aiming to mitigate dust issues and improve drainage during heavy rains.
