Central News Agency, Taipei, May 29: After the US-China summit, China announced the purchase of 200 Boeing aircraft, a scale smaller than the expected 500. Reuters reported, citing sources, that China might later purchase an additional 300 to 500 Boeing jets, but this depends on whether Boeing supplies key spare parts to Chinese airlines. Due to US-China trade tensions, Chinese airlines have struggled to obtain such parts. Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg stated that the 200-plane order is just the first batch and a good start, with more orders expected later. Sources indicated that China might commit to buying 300 to 500 more jets, bringing the total to 700, provided Boeing fulfills its obligations to supply parts. From 2005 to 2017, Chinese airlines ordered an average of 127 Boeing jets per year, but due to strained US-China relations, this dropped to an average of just 6 jets per year between 2018 and 2025.
