Central News Agency (Paris, May 30) - Japanese star Naomi Osaka faced a tough challenge today in the third round of the French Open women's singles. It took her nearly three hours to defeat American teenager Iva Jovic, advancing to the round of 16 and continuing her quest for her first French Open title. The 16th-seeded Osaka spent 2 hours and 58 minutes on the court, eventually overcoming the 17th-seeded Jovic with scores of 7-6 (7/5), 6-7 (3/7), and 6-4. Osaka has won four Grand Slam titles in her career, but has never triumphed in Paris. Reaching the fourth round marks her best performance at the French Open to date. In a post-match interview, she said, "I'm honored to be here; this is the furthest I've gone so far." Although 18-year-old Jovic played exceptionally well, the former world No. 1 managed to prevail in the third set. Osaka's next opponent will be the winner of the match between Aryna Sabalenka and Daria Kasatkina.
