The 2026 Great Nanao Area School Arts Achievement Exhibition was held on the evening of the 29th at Jinyang Elementary School in Nanao Township, Yilan County. In addition to Atayal traditional songs and dances, Okinawan sanshin performances and Yaeyama dances were showcased, providing a rare opportunity for Taiwan-Japan cultural exchange in the mountain region, with children invited to wear masks and dance on stage.

Jinyang Elementary School Principal Hu Zhuo-jie told reporters that the event was a dream realized through the efforts of teachers and students from Wuta, Bihou, Penglai, and Dong'ao elementary schools, as well as Nanao High School. Wang Li-ping, former principal of Penglai Elementary School and current chairwoman of the Nanao Township Women's Association, noted that the performing teams have achieved outstanding results in county and national competitions, showcasing the fruits of the children's learning.

With the number of students in remote areas declining, principals are reflecting on how to demonstrate the value of their schools through such achievements. The stage was set next to a traditional house, integrated with the surrounding mountains and valleys. A visiting group from the Ampal Natural Environment Protection Association in Ishigaki, Japan, also participated. Performances by Miyagi Kohei on the sanshin, along with Yaeyama dances by Kyan Ikuko and others, amazed the local tribe members, creating a beautiful feast of exotic music and culture.
