Central News Agency, Taichung, May 30. Former Inventec Chairman Li Shih-chin cited NVIDIA founder Jensen Huang's experience of facing bankruptcy three times and his current seven-day work week to encourage Tunghai University graduates to remain vigilant in times of peace and persist in their ideals, stating that "gold will always shine." In his commencement speech, Li, a distinguished alumnus of the Economics Department, urged graduates to remember past failures and setbacks even amidst high economic growth to avoid being swept away by the currents of time. He highlighted the "Jensen Huang and Taiwan behind the glamour," noting that while the public sees Huang enjoying food at night markets, they overlook that NVIDIA faced bankruptcy at least three times during its development. Li revealed that even though NVIDIA is now a global leader in computing power, Huang still wakes up at 4 a.m. daily and works seven days a week, driven by the core philosophy of "the company is only 30 days away from bankruptcy." Facing the new reality where "the shelf life of a degree may shorten to 2-3 years," Li provided three job-seeking guidelines: targeting roles at the intersection of AI substitution and supply chain restructuring, roles with dual advantages in semiconductors/AI and ESG transformation, and Taiwanese companies actively expanding domestically and internationally. Li emphasized that the output value of overseas Taiwanese businesses has reached $1 trillion USD. He cited the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA) plans for three overseas science parks—Mexico this year, the U.S. next year, and Poland the following year—as "Taiwan outside of Taiwan," representing world-class battlefields for graduates. He encouraged students, "On the long road, as long as you persist, gold will always shine."
