Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim attended a youth forum in Taichung today as part of the Democratic Progressive Party's 40th-anniversary series. Hsiao noted that during the martial law era, there was a lack of freedom of speech and basic human rights, but through the hardships of the party's founding, a more democratic and free Taiwan was created. She touched upon the history of Taiwan's industrial expansion overseas during the globalization process after the Cold War, noting that the world is now fragmented, with the weaponization of trade and increased tariff barriers. Hsiao cited TSMC founder Morris Chang, who once said that 'globalization is dead,' and pointed out that amidst the chaos of the world order, new technologies like AI are bringing new opportunities and challenges. She emphasized that today's Taiwan possesses high-capital, high-value, and high-tech industries and is trusted by the world. Despite the difficult international situation, Taiwan holds values worthy of respect, and she urged young people to believe that 'being a confident Taiwanese is the attitude for facing the future world.'
