The Lienchiang County Government's Department of Education and the Youth Affairs Committee held a youth exchange forum in Juguang Township today. Participating youth reported that rental housing is extremely scarce, and finding a place to live without personal connections is a common struggle, which negatively impacts the willingness of military personnel and young people to stay and work in the area.
According to the Lienchiang County Government, this is the first time a roving youth forum has been held to overcome geographical limitations that make it difficult for youth on remote islands to be heard. At today's first session in Juguang, youth committee members including Liu Yu-ting exchanged views with local youth.
Liu Yu-ting told reporters that local youth are primarily focused on housing issues. In the Juguang area, rental properties are rare, and finding a place to live without connections is a daily challenge. Furthermore, basic living supplies are scarcer than in areas like Nangan. Some military personnel have requested transfers because their families cannot settle in Juguang, and some civil servants have resigned within a week of arrival due to this issue.
Youth expressed that while they have found jobs in Juguang, the housing problem is the biggest obstacle to long-term settlement. Additionally, social housing in East and West Juguang is designed primarily for singles, failing to meet the needs of small families. Liu Yu-ting stated that these concerns will be reported to the county government, with recommendations for short, medium, and long-term improvement plans.
