Mexico edges Australia 1-0 in World Cup friendly

Mexico, one of the co-hosts of the World Cup, defeated Australia 1-0 in a friendly match in Los Angeles on the 30th, cheered on by nearly 80,000 fans. Mexican defender Johan Vasquez scored the only goal of the match, heading in a corner kick from Alexis Vega in the first half. Mexico dominated possession, but Australia relied on solid defense and counterattacks, though they missed several key opportunities. The match was held at the historic Rose Bowl, which hosted the 1994 World Cup final. Mexico will play its next friendly against Serbia on the 4th and face South Africa in Mexico City on June 11.
