Central News Agency, Lianjiang County, May 31. The Taiwan-Matsu No. 4 submarine cable is currently being laid off the coast of Dongyin. Yesterday, an Indian crew member on the Indonesian vessel 'ILE DE RE' suddenly felt unwell with suspected stroke symptoms. The Matsu Coast Guard received the report and dispatched a patrol boat for rescue. The Coast Guard's 10th (Matsu) Flotilla stated that they received a report at 12:15 PM yesterday regarding the emergency on the vessel located 2.2 nautical miles southeast of Dongyin. The Coast Guard immediately activated its maritime rescue mechanism, dispatching patrol boat PP-3586 to the scene. The patient was safely transported to Zhongzhu Port in Dongyin and transferred to the Dongyin Health Center by local fire department ambulance personnel. The Coast Guard emphasized its mission of maritime rescue, providing assistance regardless of nationality to ensure the safety of personnel at sea. The Taiwan-Matsu No. 4 cable is approximately 303 kilometers long and is expected to be completed this year, connecting Bali, New Taipei City to Dongyin, Nangan, and Xiju. To minimize damage, the cable is protected by cast iron pipes near the shore and buried 2.5 meters deep in deeper waters, avoiding fishing zones.
