Summer electricity rates for residential users are in effect from today until September 30. Taipower points out that electricity consumption increases significantly in summer due to rising temperatures and the use of air conditioning. To meet peak demand, power plants with higher generation costs must be activated, making supply costs higher than in non-summer months. Taipower stated that last year, the average monthly electricity consumption for residential users in summer was 418 kWh, an increase of nearly 40% compared to non-summer months, with the average monthly bill increasing by about 446 TWD. Of this, 326 TWD (about 73%) is due to the natural increase in electricity usage during summer, while the amount specifically due to the summer rate adjustment is about 120 TWD (27%). Other news includes flight disruptions due to typhoons, international security developments, comments from NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang on AI, rising obesity rates in Taiwan, a Taiwanese performance group's success on Britain's Got Talent, and pitcher Hsu Jo-hsi's strong performance in professional baseball.
