Taipei City to Inspect at Least 400 Businesses Starting June 1 to Prevent Heat-Related Hazards

Taipei, May 31 (CNA) - In response to rising temperatures, the Taipei City Department of Labor announced today that it will launch a "High-Temperature Outdoor Work Awareness and Labor Inspection Project" starting June 1, with plans to inspect at least 400 businesses. Last year, 640 businesses were inspected, resulting in one construction firm being fined NT$60,000. The project targets high-risk groups such as construction workers, delivery personnel, and road maintenance crews. Kang Shui-shun, secretary-general of the Labor Inspection Office, warned that under current laws, failure to prevent heat-related hazards resulting in occupational illness can lead to fines of NT$30,000 to NT$300,000, which will increase to NT$50,000 to NT$3 million starting July 1. Labor Commissioner Wang Chiu-hsiu reminded employers to enforce the three principles: "drink water, cool down, and rest."
