Due to the approach of Typhoon Jangmi, the 6th of the year, to the Okinawa region, several Japanese airlines have announced the cancellation of some flights from today through June 2nd. As of 10 PM last night, Japan's two major airlines had decided to cancel a total of 251 flights, affecting over 20,000 people. The Ryukyu Shimpo reported that the typhoon has already affected All Nippon Airways (ANA) flights to and from Naha, Ishigaki, and Miyako airports, with today's round-trip flights between Naha and Ishigaki, as well as 104 flights on June 1st, being cancelled. ANA further cancelled 4 flights on June 2nd, totaling 109 cancellations over three days and impacting 13,530 passengers. Japan Airlines (JAL) and its subsidiaries, Japan Transocean Air (JTA) and Ryukyu Air Commuter (RAC), have also grounded 142 flights between Naha and Haneda, as well as between Haneda and Miyako/Ishigaki, affecting 12,659 passengers. Fuji News Network (FNN) reported that airlines may increase the number of cancelled flights depending on the situation.
