Chunghwa Telecom Restores Coastal Forest in Pingtung; Tai Tzu-ying Joins as Sustainability Ambassador

Chunghwa Telecom is partnering with the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency to restore coastal forests in Checheng Township, Pingtung County, planting 7,600 native trees. Badminton queen Tai Tzu-ying, serving as a sustainability ambassador, led the planting event in the Haikou section today, calling on the public to pay attention to coastal forest ecology. Chunghwa Telecom Chairman Chien Chih-cheng stated that the company has been working on an eight-year, 150,000-tree reforestation project since 2022, and by the end of 2025, it had planted 77,139 trees across Taiwan. The project in Checheng aims to restore local ecology by removing invasive species like Leucaena leucocephala. Tai Tzu-ying said the tree-planting activity is very meaningful and hopes more companies will join such initiatives. Chunghwa Telecom stated that the project spans over 10 locations nationwide. In 2026, it plans to plant another 32,364 trees. The planting area in Checheng serves critical functions such as coastal wind and sand protection and biodiversity maintenance. The project introduces diverse native plants and restores the endangered species 'Thespesia populnea'.
