Nationwide Crackdown on Drug-Impaired Driving: 581 Cases Detected in 6 Days

Amid frequent reports of drug-impaired driving, the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) announced on the 1st that a nationwide crackdown conducted from May 24th to 29th resulted in the detection of 581 cases of drug-impaired driving. Furthermore, 652 drug-related cases were solved, and 685 suspects were arrested. The National Police Agency stated that to address the threat to public safety, it has strengthened preventive measures in three areas: 'cutting off the source,' 'immediate interception,' and 'strengthening law enforcement.' The introduction of saliva drug screening kits has significantly improved the effectiveness of police enforcement, allowing officers to take immediate action, such as vehicle impoundment and license suspension. With the amendment of the Code of Criminal Procedure, drug-impaired driving is now a ground for preventive detention, and 42 suspects have already been detained by courts. The government plans to continue working with the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Transportation to increase penalties and improve management systems.
