Two Detained for Drug-Impaired Driving; Taipei Prosecutors Emphasize Strict Enforcement

The Taipei District Prosecutors Office announced today that two individuals, surnamed Chang and Hsu, were apprehended by highway police and Wanhua police for drug-impaired driving. Prosecutors determined there was a risk of recidivism and successfully requested preventive detention from the Taipei District Court. According to the press release, Chang was involved in a single-vehicle accident on National Highway 3 in Wenshan District, Taipei, on the afternoon of May 28, and tested positive for amphetamines. Hsu was stopped in Wanhua District in the early hours of May 30 for suspicious driving and tested positive for heroin and amphetamines. Prosecutors stated that both individuals are suspected of dangerous driving under the Criminal Code and were detained due to the risk of repeating the offense. The Taipei District Prosecutors Office stated it will continue to implement the 'National Anti-Drug Driving Project,' working with police to crack down on drug-impaired driving and strictly prosecute those who disregard public safety.
