According to a report by CNA reporter Li Hui-ting, Pingtung County Councilor Liang Yu-tzu stated during a session on the 1st that as summer temperatures continue to rise, Wannian Creek serves as the best cooling green belt in Pingtung City. She suggested creating a new waterfront trail along the creek behind the main library in Millennium Park, integrating 'reading, forest, and water' to create an urban oasis and a beautiful summer retreat. The Pingtung County Water Resources Department stated that Millennium Park is located in a prime area of Pingtung City, and because the slope of Wannian Creek in this section is small, the area is spacious, and the water flow is gentle, the waterfront trail is feasible. Additionally, Liang addressed the severe shortage of facilities in neighborhood parks. There are 27 neighborhood parks managed by the Pingtung City Office, yet there are only 101 sets of fitness equipment in total across all parks in the city, leading to a bottleneck of 'insufficient quantity and limited variety.' She advocated for a comprehensive renovation of park equipment to include diverse, age-appropriate, and well-designed fitness gear to encourage exercise among the elderly and youth. The Pingtung County Public Works Department stated it would inventory the parks under its jurisdiction to see if fitness equipment can be increased, and will also contact the city office to jointly assess and secure relevant funding for improvements.
