Central News Agency, New Taipei, June 1. In response to frequent incidents of drug-impaired driving, the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office has teamed up with police to enforce strict crackdowns. Following the amendment of Article 101-1 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which now includes drug-impaired driving as grounds for preventive detention, 17 individuals have been detained since the law took effect on May 15. The New Taipei District Prosecutors Office issued a press release today detailing recent cases, including a fatal accident in Zhonghe District on May 23, a self-inflicted crash in Banqiao on May 24, and an incident in Yonghe on May 27 where a suspect injured an officer while fleeing. The office emphasized that it views these cases with high priority and will continue to pursue strict prosecution and preventive detention to curb the spread of drug-impaired driving.
