On the afternoon of June 1st, Taichung police stopped a vehicle that was swerving and crossing the double yellow line. During the inspection, the driver, surnamed Hsiao, suddenly pulled out a modified handgun and pulled the slide. Officers reacted quickly, disarmed him, and subdued him. During the struggle, the officers sustained minor abrasions on their arms and fingers but were treated and are in stable condition. According to police investigations, Hsiao, who was wanted for drug-related offenses, was found with one modified handgun and 8 rounds of ammunition on his person. An additional two modified handguns, 44 rounds of ammunition, two bags of heroin, and 3.37 grams of methamphetamine were found in his backpack. The suspect tested positive for drugs and has been referred to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office for charges including obstruction of justice, violation of the Firearms, Ammunition and Knives Control Act, the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act, and public endangerment under the Criminal Code.
