Man arrested for stealing base station cables in Miaoli, also charged with drug-impaired driving

According to the Central News Agency, a series of base station cable thefts occurred in Tongxiao Township, Miaoli County, in mid-May. The incidents caused network outages in the Pingyuan neighborhood. When telecommunications engineers arrived to investigate, the suspect, surnamed Liao, abandoned his vehicle and fled. Police formed a task force and tracked him to Xiangshan District, Hsinchu City, where he was apprehended on May 27. Stolen cables and tools were found in his car. During the arrest, police noticed the suspect appeared disoriented; a saliva test confirmed drug use, leading to an additional charge of drug-impaired driving. The suspect is currently being held in custody.
