Ahead of the annual Dragon Boat Festival, the Taiwanese community in the Greater Washington D.C. area gathered on May 31st to enjoy zongzi and play games. Cao Shi-jie, president of the Taiwanese Association of Greater Washington, stated that the event aims to provide a 'feeling of home' and strengthen community ties. A total of 300 Taiwanese-style zongzi were prepared by Hsu Chia-chia, who learned the craft from her mother. She emphasized that despite the labor-intensive process, she continues to make them by hand to ensure the second and third generations of Taiwanese-Americans can experience and remember Taiwanese culture.
