Central News Agency, Hong Kong, June 1. A survey indicates that nearly half of students from mainland China studying at Hong Kong universities intend to stay in the city after graduation. The 'Youth Hong Kong Drifter Association,' which supports foreign students, held the second 'Study in Hong Kong' awards ceremony yesterday and released a report on the lives of mainland students. According to the data, 380 students were surveyed between last September and this May, with 44% stating they 'definitely' or 'tend to' stay in Hong Kong. Among those, 19.2% cited high rent as the biggest challenge, followed by cultural adaptation and social isolation. 22.1% chose Hong Kong for its academic standards and global rankings. Currently, there are 58,000 mainland students in Hong Kong, more than double the number from four years ago.
