Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held the 5th China-Brazil Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue with visiting Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira in Beijing yesterday. Wang urged both countries to jointly resist various external challenges, promote their respective modernization processes, and strengthen the unity of the 'Global South' to provide more certainty to a turbulent world. According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry website, Wang stated on the 1st that 'China appreciates the Brazilian government's long-term adherence to the one-China principle' and supports Brazil in defending its national sovereignty and independence. Both sides agreed to coordinate through mechanisms like the China-Brazil High-Level Coordination and Cooperation Committee to achieve more results. Wang also expressed anticipation for the 2026 China-Brazil Year of Culture and called for stronger communication within multilateral mechanisms like the UN and BRICS to promote a more just global governance system. On the same day, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with Vieira, stating that China views the relationship from a strategic and long-term perspective and is willing to enhance high-level strategic cooperation to protect the interests of developing countries.
