Central News Agency reporter Chiang Ming-yen, Taipei, June 2. CMC is transitioning from traditional optical storage to focus on AI demand. The AI boom has led to tight memory supplies, which has unexpectedly triggered a price rebound in the mature optical disc industry. Chairman Weng Ming-hsien stated today that optical disc prices rose by about 10-15% in the first quarter, and double-digit growth is expected in the second quarter. CMC is participating in COMPUTEX Taipei, showcasing new products under the 'Storage' and 'Power' themes. Weng noted that the company expects to return to profitability in Q2 and anticipates even better performance in the second half of the year. As AI applications proliferate, the need for high-speed, secure data storage and efficient power supply is growing, and CMC is strengthening its product lines, including SSDs and power banks, through its Verbatim brand.
