CNA reporter Su Mu-chun, Taichung, June 2. A woman surnamed Xu in Taichung was persuaded by a social media contact to invest in 'active ETFs,' with the contact promising stable returns. She attempted to transfer NT$1 million at a bank yesterday, but bank staff suspected fraud and reported it to the police, successfully preventing the loss. The Taichung City Police Department's Taiping Precinct stated that at 2 PM on the 1st, staff at the E.Sun Bank Taiping Branch reported that a woman was attempting a large transfer and appeared to be a victim of fraud. Police arrived and found that Xu had met a contact named 'Xiao Yue' on Facebook, who claimed to be an investment expert. The police explained that transferring funds to private accounts and promises of guaranteed returns are typical signs of investment fraud. They convinced Xu to stop the transfer, saving her money.
