The Chiayi City Government held a 'Chiayi City Tourism Promotion Event' in Busan, South Korea, today. Mayor Huang Min-hui introduced the city under the theme of 'Chiayi-style sensibility,' highlighting its Wood City culture, unique cafes, and slow-living atmosphere, attracting the attention of the Korean tourism industry. The Chiayi City Government stated that Mayor Huang led a delegation to visit the Busan Tourism Association yesterday to exchange experiences in tourism cooperation and city marketing before hosting today's event. Mayor Huang noted that South Korea is an important international tourism market for Chiayi City. Since the city held a promotion event in Seoul in 2024, the number of Korean tourists staying in Chiayi City has grown by 3.8 times compared to 2023. In the first quarter of this year, Korean tourists ranked second among foreign guests, demonstrating the success of Chiayi's efforts in the Korean market. Mayor Huang explained that in recent years, a trend of 'Taiwanese sensibility' has emerged in Korea, and Chiayi City is one of the best cities to showcase this. With over 6,000 traditional wooden houses, the city has used policies like 'Old House Makeovers' to attract young people to open cafes, dessert shops, and boutique hotels, shaping a 'Chiayi-style sensibility' that blends wooden houses, old streets, and a slow-living lifestyle. Chiayi City Tourism and Information Department Director Cheng Ya-wen mentioned that Korean entertainment culture has driven global tourism, and Chiayi has actively promoted film and television cooperation, including the filming of the Korean reality show 'Survivor 2' in the city. The city government stated that this event also included local accommodation providers, souvenir businesses, and the Chiayi City God Temple to introduce religious culture, unique lodging, and local delicacies to Korean travel operators.
