Central News Agency, New Taipei, June 2. The New Taipei City Police Department reported that from January to May this year, they apprehended 2,465 cases of drug-impaired driving, an increase of 2,130 cases compared to 335 in the same period last year, representing a 636% surge. This highlights the ongoing threat to road safety. To support the National Police Agency's campaign, the New Taipei City Police released the names and photos of 11 repeat offenders of alcohol or drug-impaired driving today, aiming to enhance deterrence through public disclosure. Police noted that drugs impair attention and reaction time, leading to severe accidents. If a driver tests positive via saliva screening or refuses testing, and objective evidence shows they cannot drive safely, police can arrest them as current offenders under the Code of Criminal Procedure. If they refuse urine testing, police will obtain a warrant for mandatory testing. Police urge the public to report abnormal driving behavior by calling 110.
