A military police officer stationed in New Taipei left his post without authorization in January this year to drink, failing to return to the camp on time. He was later found passed out at the camp gate while on duty. The New Taipei District Prosecutors Office investigated him for violating the Criminal Code of the Armed Forces. Considering his confession and the lack of severe consequences, the prosecutor granted a deferred prosecution. According to the documents, the officer, surnamed Tian, was a sergeant stationed in Taishan. He was scheduled for guard duty on January 5th but went out drinking early that morning, returning only at 5:23 AM. He failed to report for his shift and was found intoxicated at the guard post. The prosecutor ordered him to write a letter of apology and pay 30,000 TWD to the national treasury during a one-year probation period.
