(Central News Agency, Yang Szu-jui, Tainan, 2nd) With many schools holding graduation ceremonies recently, bouquets and floral baskets have become popular items. The Tainan City Agriculture Bureau is promoting local specialties, anthuriums and orchids, and is guiding schools to lead students in cultivating anthuriums for use in floral art.
Li Fang-lin, Director of the Tainan Agriculture Bureau, told reporters today that the anthurium, shaped like a heart with wings, symbolizes passion, confidence, courage to pursue dreams, and great success. Orchids have long been symbols of elegance and excellence; some varieties are even named "Number One," representing students' hard work and success in their studies.
Director Li stated that through the beautiful meanings of orchids and anthuriums, gratitude and blessings for teachers, classmates, and graduates can be expressed concretely. He wished graduates continued excellence in the next stage of their lives.
The Bureau added that Tainan is a major floral production hub, boasting an internationally renowned orchid industry and high-quality anthuriums. They hope to encourage the public to use domestic flowers to express gratitude, thereby supporting local farmers and the floral industry. Beyond bouquets, they suggest unique potted plants as diverse gift options.
The Bureau noted that the city has been promoting "horticultural education" in cooperation with industry groups, encouraging students to observe the growth process from planting to blooming, helping them understand local floral characteristics. Students can use their self-grown anthuriums for creative floral arrangements or home decor, showcasing their value in different ways.
