Central News Agency, Taipei, June 2. President Lai Ching-te awarded the Order of Propitious Clouds with Special Grand Cordon to Czech Senate President Miloš Vystrčil today, recognizing his long-term support for Taiwan, the deepening of bilateral relations, and his defense of democratic and freedom values. President Lai praised Vystrčil for his democratic courage in visiting Taiwan in 2020 despite pressure, where he famously declared, 'I am a Taiwanese,' in the Legislative Yuan. Vystrčil stated that the medal is not just an honor but represents responsibility and commitment, and he will continue to promote Taiwan-Czech friendship. The ceremony was attended by Presidential Office Secretary-General Pan Men-an, National Security Council Secretary-General Joseph Wu, and Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung. President Lai emphasized that although the two countries are geographically far apart, they share a common belief in democracy, freedom, and human rights. He noted that China Airlines launched direct flights between Taipei and Prague in 2023, and Starlux Airlines is set to join this route in August. He expressed hope for expanded cooperation in semiconductors, AI, smart healthcare, and information security. Vystrčil expressed gratitude for the honor and reaffirmed the importance of solidarity among like-minded democratic allies.
