US investigation: Chinese military has long sought NVIDIA chips

Although NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has stated that the Chinese military does not rely on NVIDIA chips, an analysis of procurement records over the past six years shows that the Chinese military has been seeking NVIDIA AI chips since 2019. WireScreen, an open-source platform, found that the People's Liberation Army has intensified efforts to acquire AI chips even after US export restrictions. Out of 3,800 procurement records, over 500 specifically requested NVIDIA products. Bloomberg also reported that Chinese universities on the US blacklist are seeking access to H200 chips. An NVIDIA spokesperson dismissed the idea that the Chinese military would rely on 'dozens of used GPUs' as 'silly,' stating that China has sufficient domestic chips for all military applications.
