Motorcycle hits elderly couple in Hualien, 1 dead, 1 seriously injured

In Hualien City, an elderly couple was struck by a motorcycle while crossing the street. The 81-year-old husband was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries, while his 76-year-old wife remains hospitalized. Police investigation revealed that the couple was crossing the street near an intersection on Zhongyuan Road when they were hit by a 39-year-old man on a motorcycle who was attempting to overtake another vehicle. There were no traffic lights at the scene, and the motorcyclist had crossed a double yellow line. The couple also failed to use a pedestrian crossing located 100 meters away. Both parties were found to have violated traffic regulations. Breathalyzer tests showed no alcohol consumption.
